Thursday evenings on the Museumsplatz – 16 stalls with regional specialities, fresh produce, and a relaxed music programme
The Feierabendmarkt am Museumsplatz is one of the most popular after-work formats in Hagen. Three times a year, around 16 restaurateurs, breweries, and regional producers transform the central square in front of the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum into an open-air culinary mile. The concept: You drop by after work, stroll from stall to stall, sample wine, beer, and specialities, and meet acquaintances from the city.
The 2026 season includes three Thursdays:
Open each day from 4 PM to 10 PM. In all weather, as many stalls are covered.
Around 16 participating businesses bring their specialities directly to the Museumsplatz. Among them are established Hagen addresses such as the Friends Restaurant, the Vormann Brewery, and the Käse Deele. The culinary offerings range from:
A relaxed accompanying programme with live music or DJ sets creates the right atmosphere – without being intrusive. The Feierabendmarkt is consciously positioned as a relaxed alternative to the classic Stadtfest (city festival).
The Museumsplatz is located in the heart of Hagen's city centre – directly in front of the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum. You can reach the square on foot from the main train station in under 10 minutes. Cafés, galleries, and shops invite you to stroll around. The square has been upgraded in recent years as an urban meeting point and has regained its role as a central hub thanks to the Feierabendmarkt, city festivals, and cultural events.
The organiser is HAGEN.WIRTSCHAFTSENTWICKLUNG GmbH, the city's economic development and city marketing company. The Feierabendmarkt is part of a broader initiative to revitalise Hagen's city centre – along with market events, special action days, and cultural formats.
If you want to be there all summer long, mark the three dates in your calendar. It's best to arrive around 5 PM to 6 PM, before the biggest after-work rush. On warm days, the square fills up significantly from 7 PM onwards – with people mingling, small talk, and live music. Anyone who wants to get to know Hagen away from the standard tourist routes will experience a piece of real city life here.
