Grand Anniversary Festival of the Ebersbach-Kapsdorf Fire Brigade in Abenberg
The Ebersbach-Kapsdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1896 and is celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2026. Such a jubilee is not merely a club festival in Middle Franconia, but a local event: the FFW is as deeply rooted in village life as almost any other institution, providing not only fire protection and technical assistance but also contributing to the social life of the community. The anniversary from 1896 to 2026 spans five generations of active firefighters from the districts of Ebersbach and Kapsdorf.
The anniversary festival runs from Wednesday, May 13th to Sunday, May 17th, 2026. The opening on Wednesday evening typically begins with a beer tapping ceremony, a welcome in the marquee, and music. The following days feature a marquee program with live bands; on Saturday, the obligatory Mallorca party – now the musical highlight for the younger generation at most fire brigade festivals in Middle Franconia. On Sunday, a festive church service and afterwards the grand parade through the district with friendly brigades from the Franconian Lake District and the Roth district.
During the festival weekend, the Ebersbach-Kapsdorf Fire Brigade will present fire brigade demonstrations: historical equipment from the club museum, current operational technology, and demonstrations by the youth fire brigade. The aim is to increase the brigade's visibility in the community and to recruit new members. In the marquee: traditional Franconian tavern cuisine, sausages, roast pork with dumplings, and Franconian beer on tap.
Abenberg is a small town in the Roth district in Middle Franconia (Bavaria), located on the edge of the Franconian Lake District with Brombachsee and Altmühlsee. The town is known for its Abenberg Castle, a prominent landmark in the Middle Franconian castle landscape. Ebersbach is one of Abenberg's districts – small, rural, and with an active club scene where the FFW plays a central role.
The 130th anniversary of the Ebersbach-Kapsdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade is the major local event of 2026 in Abenberg. The FFW itself is the organizer, supported by the Abenberg market town, the Roth district fire brigade association, and friendly brigades from the Franconian Lake District.
Program outline from preliminary announcements: Opening on Wednesday, marquee with daily live entertainment, Mallorca party on Saturday, church service and parade on Sunday. Franconian delicacies and beer on tap in the marquee. The FFW announces "five days of festive atmosphere, tradition, and pure party.".
