Medieval Rock at a Medieval Castle
The Feuertanz Festival is one of Germany's most distinctive medieval rock festivals. The venue is Abenberg Castle, an impressive hilltop castle dating back to the 12th century in the small Middle Franconian town of Abenberg (Roth district, Bavaria). In 2026, the festival celebrates its 25th anniversary – an occasion for a particularly lavish program that sold out in record time.
Headliners and Stage Program
The biggest names in the German medieval rock scene take the main stage: In Extremo, Subway To Sally, dArtagnan, and Corvus Corax. The lineup is rounded out by Metaklapa, Die Gossenpoeten, Kupfergold, Schattenmann, Storm Seeker, Katerfahrt, Deus Vult, and Vera Lux. Eric Fish (Subway To Sally) has written a special festival anthem for the Feuertanz Festival, calling it "this most heartwarming of all festivals." Concerts start at 1 p.m. and continue well past midnight.
Medieval Market, Fire Acrobatics, and Knight's Feast
What sets the Feuertanz Festival apart from a pure music festival is its medieval setting. A medieval market with artisans, leatherworkers, blacksmiths, and mead taverns springs up on the castle terraces. Market music, midnight concerts, fire acrobatics, jugglers, and the famous knight's feast transform the castle into a stage for historical reenactment. The castle museum is also integrated into the festival experience.
Abenberg Castle and Franconia
Abenberg Castle is one of the most beautiful preserved hilltop castles in Franconia. It houses a museum (Bobbin Lace Museum, Women's Culture Museum) and is the landmark of the town of Abenberg. During the festival, guests camp on a large meadow below the castle. With around 5,000 visitors per year, the Feuertanz Festival remains pleasantly manageable in size, contributing to its special, warm atmosphere.
Tickets and Market Access
The festival is completely sold out for 2026. Festival tickets cost €115 for adults; children under 12 were admitted free with an accompanying adult. Those who couldn't get a festival ticket can still visit the medieval market on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. onwards without a concert ticket. The organizer is Concertbüro Franken.
Feuertanz Festival — edition 2026
The 25th Feuertanz Festival will be held on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Abenberg Castle. The organizer is Concertbüro Franken. Tickets for the anniversary edition sold out early (€115 for adults, children under 12 admitted free with an accompanying adult).
On the main stage are In Extremo, Subway To Sally, dArtagnan, and Corvus Corax – four of the most influential bands in the German medieval rock scene. The lineup is complemented by Metaklapa, Die Gossenpoeten, Kupfergold, Schattenmann, Storm Seeker, Katerfahrt, Deus Vult, and Vera Lux. Concerts start at 1 p.m. and continue well past midnight.
Alongside the music, Abenberg Castle is transformed into a complete medieval market: artisans, mead taverns, blacksmiths, market music, jugglers, and the famous knight's feast. Midnight concerts extend the festival atmosphere into the night. Even without a festival ticket, the medieval market is accessible to day visitors on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. onwards.

Getting There
By train to Roth or Schwabach, then by bus or taxi to Abenberg. By car via the A6 (exit Schwabach-Süd) or A9 (exit Roth), then follow the B 466 to Abenberg. Parking available at the festival grounds.
Tickets
Festival 2026 SOLD OUT. Market entry on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. also possible without a festival ticket (market visitors pay a separate day fee).
Camping
Camping on the large meadow below the castle; tent and camper van pitches included in the festival ticket. Arrival from Thursday.
