Whitsun Festival around the Villa Musica

A Villa, a Musical Tradition, a Whitsun Day

The Villa Musica at Saarbrücker Straße 94 is the musical heart of the Kleinblittersdorf municipality, located in the far south of the Saarbrücken regional association, directly on the Saar river and on the border with the French department of Moselle. The historic building houses the Blasorchester Kleinblittersdorf e.V. (Kleinblittersdorf Brass Band) and regularly serves as a venue for concerts, rehearsal days, and club celebrations. On Whit Sunday, the area opens up to the outside – as a grand Whitsun festival with live music from morning till night.

One Day, Many Sound Worlds

The concept is simple and strong: from 10:30 AM in the morning until 10:00 PM in the evening, various ensembles perform outdoors around the villa. The event typically spans a musical spectrum from the brass band in the morning, to jazz and folk ensembles in the afternoon, and more popular live music in the evening. The audience takes seats at beer garden tables, gets sausages and beer from the club stands, listens, sways along, or chats in the garden.

A Border Region Encounter

Kleinblittersdorf is located at the southern end of Saarbahn line 1 from Saarbrücken main station and is connected to the French Saar region via the Hanweiler-Welferding or Kleinblittersdorf-Grosbliederstroff bridges. The Whitsun festival traditionally attracts a bi-national audience: people from the Saarbrücken area meet visitors from Lorraine. This makes the festival – even without an official "cross-border" designation – a small Saar-Lor-Lux experience.

Organizers of the Festival

The festival is organized by the municipality of Kleinblittersdorf in close cooperation with the Blasorchester Kleinblittersdorf and the association "Freunde der Villa Musica e.V.". The association maintains the building, organizes concerts and cultural activities, and serves as a contact point for donations to preserve the house. The Whitsun festival is one of the most important public appearances for both associations during the year.

Surroundings: Kleinblittersdorf and the Bliesgau

Visitors to the Whitsun festival can extend their day with a walk along the Saar riverbank or an excursion into the adjacent Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve. The neighboring French town of Grosbliederstroff – reachable on foot via the Saar bridge – also invites you for a coffee in the Lorraine style. The Whitsun weekend is traditionally a travel weekend in Saarland, and Kleinblittersdorf is a good starting point for a long weekend.
