Family festival at the historic Wettin winery with free museum admission
The Hoflößnitz winery above Radebeul (Meißen district) is one of the oldest and most significant wineries in Saxony. For over 600 years, it was the electoral vineyard of the Wettin dynasty, who had their own vines cultivated here. The magnificent Lust- und Berghaus (pleasure and mountain house) from 1650, with its elaborate interior paintings, is now a museum and the architectural heart of the estate. The Pentecost festival opens this historic site for a family celebration every year.
On Whit Sunday (11 am–6 pm), admission to the museum is free. Free guided tours for adults (11:00 am, 12:30 pm, 5:00 pm) and children (11:30 am, 1:30 pm) reveal the history of the wine-growing building. A diverse family program takes place in the inner courtyard: The workshop "Painting with Mechthild Mansel" (12:00 pm–4:00 pm) invites children to be creative, the Puppentheater ECKstein performs at 2:30 pm, and the Lößnitzchor gives a concert at 4:00 pm.
For families, there are crafts, a bouncy castle, games, and face painting. Alpacas in the inner courtyard are a special highlight for young visitors. Culinary offerings include hearty and sweet treats, an ice cream mobile, and the famous Hoflößnitz wine — also in non-alcoholic versions. The combination of baroque architecture, vineyard surroundings, and family activities makes the festival one of the most beautiful Pentecost events in the Saxon Elbe region.
On Whit Monday, Hoflößnitz opens from 12 pm with a more classic wine service and barbecue offerings. The day is aimed more at adult visitors and families looking for a relaxed end to the day at the winery. With views over the Elbe and the Lößnitz region, Hoflößnitz is also one of the most beautiful scenic spots in Saxony.
The 2026 edition presents the proven format of the Stiftung Hoflößnitz: Whit Sunday as a family day with extensive children's program and free museum admission, Whit Monday as a relaxed wine enjoyment day.
The baroque Lust- und Berghaus from 1650 with its historic interior paintings is at the center. Free guided tours explore the rooms and recount the 600-year history of the Wettin electoral vineyard. The family program unfolds in the inner courtyard.
