Traditional Franconian Kärwa in the Nuremberg district of Mühlhof
The Kirchweih Mühlhof – known as "Kärwa" in Franconian dialect – is a traditional folk festival in the Mühlhof district of Nuremberg in the south of the city, in the state of Bavaria. It is one of the many district Kirchweihen that shape Nuremberg's festival year and preserve a piece of Franconian identity.
The Franconian Kirchweih has deep roots: originally a festival to consecrate the local church, it is today a convivial folk festival with a festival tent, brass music, beer tapping ceremony, dancing, and hearty pub cuisine. Bratwurst, Schäufele (pork shoulder), and beer are just as much a part of it as the exuberant atmosphere in the festival tent.
The venue is the grounds of TSV Mühlhof-Reichelsdorf e.V. at Auf der Schanz 70. The Kärwa is organized by the CSU Reichelsdorf-Mühlhof local chapter. Traditionally, the Kirchweih is opened with a ceremonial beer tapping.
The Kirchweih Mühlhof is a festival by neighbours for neighbours: for several days, people from the district and surrounding areas come together in the festival tent to celebrate Franconian customs in a convivial atmosphere.
From Friday, July 17, to Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Nuremberg district of Mühlhof will celebrate its traditional Kärwa. On the grounds of TSV Mühlhof-Reichelsdorf e.V. at Auf der Schanz 70, the festival tent, Franconian brass music, and hearty Kärwa delicacies will ensure an exuberant atmosphere. Organized by the CSU Reichelsdorf-Mühlhof local chapter, the Kirchweih traditionally opens with a ceremonial beer tapping. The detailed daily program will be announced by the organizer in due time.
The exact daily program will be published by the organizer, CSU Reichelsdorf-Mühlhof, in good time before the Kärwa.
Mühlhof is located in the south of Nuremberg; the festival grounds at Auf der Schanz 70 can be reached via public transport through the districts of Reichelsdorf/Mühlhof.
Admission to the festival grounds is free; food and drinks are paid for on-site in the festival tent.
The ceremonial beer tapping at the opening is traditionally the convivial start to the Kärwa.
