Franconian Kirchweih Tradition in Nuremberg-Eibach
The Eibacher Kärwa is the district fair (Kirchweih) of the Nuremberg district of Eibach, organized by the Vorstadtverein Nürnberg-Eibach/Maiach e.V. It is one of the traditional Kirchweihen in the major city of Nuremberg and takes place on the festival grounds at the Eichenhain.
Marquee, Rides, and Customs
For several days, visitors can expect a marquee, rides, and stalls. Customs are at the heart of the event: the raising of the children's maypole, the official beer tapping by the Mayor of Nuremberg, the Kärwazug (fair procession) followed by the raising of the main maypole, and an ecumenical church service.
Family Day and Kärwabeerdigung
The event traditionally concludes with a family day featuring reduced prices, face painting, and a closing ceremony — crowned by fireworks and the humorous Kärwabeerdigung, with which the Kirchweih is symbolically laid to rest.
Nuremberg — A City of Kirchweihen in Middle Franconia
Nuremberg, an independent city in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, maintains a vibrant Franconian Kirchweih tradition with numerous district fairs. The Eibacher Kärwa is one of the fixed summer dates in the south of the city.
