Baroque garden, music, and stories between the Lusatian Lake District and Lower Lusatia
For two days, the expansive Altdöbern Castle Park in Lower Lusatia transforms into a vibrant cultural stage. Since 2015, the Parksommerträume has been the most important summer festival in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, filling the forgotten baroque garden with music, theater, crafts, and stories year after year. You can stroll among baroque axes, an English landscape garden, and the fruit tree grove with historic apple and pear varieties, reopened in 2026.
The 11th edition in 2026 kicks off a three-year thematic cycle. "All Good Spirits" refers both to the guardian spirits believed to have resided in the park, walls, and trees, and to the many people who have shaped and preserved the estate over centuries. Each area of the park tells its own story: the focus in 2026 is on the baroque garden around 1750 with its original axes, as well as the newly planted fruit tree grove with old Lusatian varieties.
The event is organized by the Heimatverein Altdöbern e.V. (Altdöbern Heritage Association), the Amt Altdöbern (Altdöbern Municipality), and WIS Wohnungsbaugesellschaft im Spreewald mbH. The series will be funded by the Lusatia Cultural Plan over the next three years – a commitment that cultural highlights are not only found in major cities like Cottbus or Senftenberg but are also vibrantly alive in small Lower Lusatian communities.
The small municipality is located in the heart of the Lusatian Lake District, a lake area created from reclaimed open-cast mines between Cottbus and Senftenberg. Visitors arriving for the festival weekend can explore the castle and park by bike or on foot, then head to Gräbendorfer See or Drebkauer See. The admission, program, and atmosphere combine high culture with popular appeal – a special mix rarely found in Brandenburg in this form.
The 11th Parksommerträume Altdöbern on the weekend of July 18th and 19th, 2026, kicks off a multi-year thematic cycle. The motto "All Good Spirits" refers to the people who have shaped the castle park over the centuries, and to the guardian spirits believed to inhabit old estates.
In 2026, the program is dedicated to the baroque garden around 1750: its original sightlines, geometric pathways, and historic plantings. A highlight is the opening of a newly planted fruit tree grove featuring historic Lusatian apple, pear, and cherry varieties.
The series will be funded by the Lusatia Cultural Plan for three years, ensuring planning security for ambitious programs. The organizers are the Altdöbern Heritage Association, the Altdöbern Municipality, and WIS GmbH.
The detailed program will be published from spring 2026 on parksommertraeume-altdoebern.de. Updates will also be available on the festival's Instagram page.
