The Parkfest of the folk costume association »D'Höllentaler Grainau« is the major summer event of the costume association in the spa park of the Zugspitze village. Unlike the more intimate Heimatabend (homeland evening), the Parkfest is an open-air traditional costume festival on the large grounds of the spa park — with several hours of program, Schuhplattler (a traditional Bavarian folk dance), folk dance, a music band, catering with fresh draft beer and Bavarian barbecue specialties. Takes place every year in the second half of August — one of the most important traditional events in summer at the foot of the Zugspitze, right next to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the state of Bavaria (district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 09180).

The Parkfest 2026 of the folk costume association D'Höllentaler Grainau will be celebrated as every year in the second half of August in the spa park of the Zugspitze village. The exact date has not yet been officially announced as of the current research — in previous years, the Parkfest took place on August 24, 2025, and August 25, 2024. The traditional costume program with Schuhplattler, folk dance, yodeling, the Grainau music band, and catering is expected.

For 2026, the Parkfest of the folk costume association D'Höllentaler Grainau is firmly scheduled as every year — the exact announcement of the date is usually made by the association and the Grainau Tourist Information in early summer. In the Grainau spa park, opposite the music pavilion, the association will again set up its open-air festival stage. The Höllentaler — Keepers of Werdenfelser Costume Culture

The folk costume association »D'Höllentaler Grainau« is one of the oldest and most active costume associations in the Werdenfelser Land. Named after the Höllental, the famous climbing valley on the north face of the Zugspitze, the association cultivates the Schuhplattler, folk dance, yodeling, and costume traditions of the Bavarian highlands. Its annual highlights include several Heimatabende in the summer and the big Parkfest in the second half of August.

The Spa Park as a Summer Stage

The Parkfest takes place on the large grounds of the Grainau spa park — opposite the music pavilion, with relaxation lawns, catering tents, and stages. Unlike the rather intimate Heimatabend, this is a large-scale open-air event that offers plenty of space even on warm summer evenings. Family-friendly, with places to linger.

The program follows the pattern of a Bavarian traditional costume festival: procession of the costume club members in Werdenfelser traditional costumes, Schuhplattler performances, old folk dances, yodeling and singing interludes, folk songs. The Grainau music band and neighboring bands provide musical accompaniment. For some dances, the audience is invited to join in — a great opportunity to actively experience Bavarian customs.
