Berlin Festival for Palestinian Cinema, Performance, and Discourse
Founded in Berlin in 2025, Palinale is conceived as an independent, multidisciplinary platform for Palestinian cinema, Palestinian performance, and Palestinian discourse. It is run by a completely voluntary collective of filmmakers, activists, and curators. The second edition in February 2026 demonstrates how quickly the format has become established: 70 events spread across 15 locations in the city.
The festival deliberately operates decentrally, utilising a network of independent Berlin cinemas, off-spaces, and cultural initiatives. The main venue is Lichtblick-Kino at Kastanienallee 77 in Prenzlauer Berg, a traditional arthouse cinema with an intimate auditorium and committed programming. It is joined by City Kino Wedding, Wolf Kino in Neukölln, and various other spaces — from small galleries to performance centres. The geographical spread is part of the concept: Palinale aims to anchor the festival in several neighbourhoods and engage with a broad audience.
Instead of a classic film showcase, Palinale bundles different formats: 34 film screenings with subsequent Q&A sessions, 14 exhibitions and performances, 15 panel discussions with over 60 speakers, and six evening events for the community. The festival operates without ticket sales — all events are accessible on a donation basis ("Pay what you can"), with proceeds going entirely to initiatives in Gaza. This setup makes the festival a clear political statement by the Palestinian-diasporic community in Berlin.
The 2026 edition of Palinale runs for eleven days, from February 12th to 22nd, 2026, concurrently at 15 locations in Berlin. The main venue is Lichtblick-Kino (Kastanienallee 77, Prenzlauer Berg), complemented by City Kino Wedding and Wolf Kino in Neukölln, as well as other off-spaces. A total of 70 events are spread across the festival — films, performances, exhibitions, panels, community evenings. The entire festival operates on a voluntary basis and is donation-based; all proceeds go to Gaza.
The 2026 festival programme comprises around 70 events over 11 days. Here is the programme structure:
