Overview

The premiere of Palinale 2025 established the festival as an independent, multidisciplinary Berlin platform for Palestinian cinema, performance, and discourse. The voluntary collective programmed film screenings, Q&A sessions, exhibitions, and panels across several Berlin venues for the first time, from Lichtblick-Kino in Prenzlauer Berg to Wolf Kino in Neukölln. Donation-based instead of ticket sales, with proceeds for Gaza — the concept immediately found an engaged community and laid the foundation for the significantly expanded second edition in 2026 with 70 events at 15 locations.

The founding edition of Palinale 2025 brought a concentrated Palestinian film festival to Berlin for the first time. Initiated by a voluntary collective of filmmakers, activists, and curators, the festival ran concurrently at several venues — primarily at Lichtblick-Kino on Kastanienallee, supplemented by other Berlin arthouse cinemas. Film screenings with Q&A, exhibitions, panels, and community evenings shaped the programme; proceeds were fully channelled to initiatives in Gaza. The premiere quickly found an interested audience and justified the scaling up for the second edition in 2026 to 70 events at 15 locations.
