Race to Kick Off the Season
The Osterlauf St. Peter-Ording marks the sporting awakening of the season in the most famous seaside resort on the North Sea. While the North Sea weather in April is still changeable, the running event attracts thousands of athletes from Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, and Lower Saxony to Sankt Peter-Ording. The event is embedded in the community's Easter festivities — sport dictates the day before the traditional Easter bonfire in the evening.
Four Distances for All Levels
- Half Marathon (21 km) — the premier discipline, a challenging course with transitions between dune, forest, and promenade
- 12 km — the intermediate competition for ambitious hobby runners
- 5 km — beginner's course and perfect family run
- Children's Runs (500 m) — separate category for the youngest participants
The Half Marathon Course
The 21 km loop leads through the most beautiful parts of St. Peter-Ording:
- Start at the Seebrückenvorplatz / Dünen-Hus
- Through the Hitzlöperweg into the hinterland
- Past the Yachthafen (harbor)
- Along the Strandweg with dune views
- Through the forest towards the turning point in the east
- Back to the finish at the Seebrückenvorplatz via the Erlebnis-Promenade (experience promenade)
The course combines natural experience with sporting challenge — with views of the stilt houses and endless sandy beaches in clear weather.
Timing and Limit
All competitions are recorded with chip-based timing. The number of participants is limited to 500 runners — early registration recommended. Register via my.raceresult.com.
Sankt Peter-Ording — Seaside Resort with Sports Tradition
St. Peter-Ording in the Nordfriesland district is Schleswig-Holstein's most prominent seaside resort — known for its 12 km long, up to 2 km wide sandy beach, the typical stilt houses, and thatched-roof architecture. With around 4,000 inhabitants, it is small but in a league of its own as a tourist destination: Over 700,000 overnight stays per year make it the most visited place in the region. Alongside the kite festivals, the surf cup, and the pirate days, the Osterlauf is one of the fixed sports and event dates of the mid-year.
