The German Mill Day has been celebrated nationwide on Whit Monday since 1994 — windmills and watermills throughout Germany open their doors to visitors. The town of Geestland uses this day to showcase its historic mills and invite families.

Whit Monday, May 25, 2026 — Three Mill Locations

The 2026 event takes place on Monday, May 25, 2026 (Whit Monday). Three mill locations are participating in Geestland:

• Lintig Mill — with a family program, cake sales, barbecue, and children's activities
• Bad Bederkesa Windmill — historic windmill in the spa town
• Hainmühlen Watermill — one of the region's rare watermills

Program at the Mills

The program follows the proven Mill Day logic: tours of the mills, explanation of the grinding technology, and demonstrations of the mill in operation where applicable. Cake sales, barbecue, and children's activities cater to the culinary and family aspects. The mill associations and local history enthusiasts run the stands and guide tours.
