An Organ with History
The heart of the Orgel plus Festival is the Friese III Organ in the Biestow church, a district of Rostock. The historically valuable instrument was extensively restored from 2019 to the end of 2021 by the Wegscheider organ building workshop from Dresden. This occasion gave rise to the concert series, which makes the organ's sonic possibilities accessible to a broad audience.
Organ "plus" – The Principle
The name says it all: at each concert, the organ enters into a dialogue with other instruments or art forms. This creates combinations such as "Organ plus Strings," "Organ plus Jazz," or encounters with choral singing, pop, and contemporary dance. The repertoire ranges from "classical" Baroque works to contemporary music – a deliberately broad horizon that lifts the organ out of its purely liturgical context.
Reliable Rhythm
The concerts follow a fixed schedule: from April to October, on the second Friday of each month at 7:30 PM, with the exception of August. This creates a reliable series throughout the warmer months, which has become a fixed date in Biestow's cultural calendar.
Supported by Local Commitment
The organizer is the Förderverein Kirchensemble Biestow e.V. (Friends of the Biestow Church Ensemble). Admission to the concerts is free; a collection is requested at the exit. After each concert, a convivial gathering invites conversation – church music is cultivated here as an approachable, communal experience.
