Church Music in Rural Biestow

Biestow Church by the village pond is a place of vibrant concert culture during the summer months. During the summer months, one to two concerts resound monthly in the church, supported by the Friends of the Biestow Church Ensemble e.V. and the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community of Biestow. Admission is generally free; donations are requested at the exit.

The "Organ plus" Concert Series

The core of the concert program is the "Organ plus" series. Between April and October – with the exception of August – the association invites you to a concert evening on the second Friday of each month. The historic Friese organ of the church, which was comprehensively restored from 2019 to the end of 2021 and thus shines again in full splendor, is the centerpiece.

A Wide Musical Spectrum

The "Organ plus" concerts offer a wide spectrum in varying ensembles and styles: from "classical" Baroque works to contemporary music, from jazz and pop to dance performances. The "plus" in the name refers to the changing partners that accompany the organ – voices, instruments, or other art forms. Guest ensembles, such as an African song choir, also enrich the program.

The Church by the Village Pond

Biestow Church is located in the village-like district of Biestow in the south of the Hanseatic city of Rostock, the largest city in the Rostock district and in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. With its location by the village pond and its manageable development, Biestow retains a rural character in the middle of the big city – an atmospheric setting for church concerts.

Concert Culture to Take Away

The concerts in Biestow Church are a low-threshold cultural offering: with free admission open to all, supported by volunteer commitment and based on a restored historical organ. They enrich the cultural life of southern Rostock throughout the entire summer half-year.
