Deep Purple on the 'Mad in Europe Tour 2026' at Coburg Castle Square
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Deep Purple will perform at Coburg's Schlossplatz. The British rock legends — one of the most influential bands in rock history for over 55 years — are touring Europe in 2026 with the 'Mad in Europe Tour'. Coburg is one of the few German dates on this limited European tour, alongside concerts in Germany and Switzerland.
On stage will be Ian Paice (drums, the only founding member from 1968 in the current lineup), Ian Gillan (vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Don Airey (keyboards), and Simon McBride (guitar). The setlist will mix the big hits — 'Smoke on the Water', 'Highway Star', 'Black Night', 'Child in Time', 'Perfect Strangers' — with material from the 2024 album =1, which topped the album charts in Germany for eight weeks.
Coburg's Schlossplatz is one of Bavaria's most beautiful open-air stages: the baroque complex is located between Ehrenburg Palace and Veste Coburg Fortress, framed by the Coburg Court Theatre and the Hofgarten. Concerts with up to 8,000 visitors take place against this listed backdrop — with equally exceptional sightlines and acoustics.
The HUK-Coburg Open-Air-Sommer is an established open-air concert series in Coburg, named after and sponsored by the Coburg-based insurance group HUK-Coburg. The organizer is VS Veranstaltungs-Service Bamberg in cooperation with Semmel Concerts and the City of Coburg. Each year, the series brings top international acts to the Schlossplatz — from Sting and ZZ Top to Deep Purple.
Coburg is an independent city in northern Upper Franconia — known for Veste Coburg Fortress, its historical connection to the British Royal Family (Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, husband of Queen Victoria), and, in recent years, for its remarkably proactive concert policy. Deep Purple in Coburg continues the tradition of major headliner concerts that the HUK-Coburg Open-Air-Sommer brings to a city of 40,000 inhabitants — a format with model character for other medium-sized cities.
The 2026 edition was announced in Autumn 2025 by Neue Presse Coburg (parent company VS Bamberg) and officially confirmed by the organizer. Coburg is one of approximately five confirmed stops for the 'Mad in Europe Tour 2026' in Germany and Switzerland — Deep Purple is foregoing its usual widespread Germany tour in 2026 in favor of fewer, larger open-air dates.
