Cinema in the Sand, Water at Your Back
Strandbad Wendenschloss on Möllhausenufer in the Wendenschloss district (Treptow-Köpenick borough) is one of Berlin's oldest and most beautiful lidos – the long sandy beach on Langen See is part of the classic Berlin summer canon. Since 2022, the lido has had an additional summer format with the Open-Air Cinema by the lake: on Wednesday evenings, a large screen is rolled onto the beach area, with deckchairs and sand cushions in front, and the lake reflecting behind the screen – open-air cinema in the original sense of Berlin.
Season from June 3rd to Mid-September 2026
2026 marks the fifth season: opening on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, with the season opener 'The Housemaid'; followed by a new film every week, always on Wednesdays. Film start is 8:15 PM, admission from 7:30 PM – intentionally late, so the evening begins with the last daylight and the film shines on the screen as darkness falls. Season ends mid-September 2026.
International Cinema Highlights of the Season
The program focuses not on premieres, but on a curated selection of international cinema highlights from past seasons – from independent hits to major productions suitable for the open-air atmosphere. A short introduction is given before each film; during the summer months, the audience can swim in the lake before and after.
Wendenschloss – Berlin Beach Classic
Wendenschloss on Langen See has been a classic recreational district in southeastern Berlin since the 1920s – with the listed lido as its centerpiece. Arrival by tram 62 from S-Bahn station Köpenick leads directly to the water; the atmosphere is more reminiscent of a Brandenburg seaside resort than the inner city. The open-air cinema reinforces this impression: those who come immerse themselves from everyday Berlin life into a long Wednesday evening by the water.
Admission €10, reduced €8
Admission €10 regular, €8 reduced. Tickets at the lido's ticket office or via the website. Street food, cold drinks, and coffee are available at the lido. Those who arrive early can use the lido in daylight – admission to the cinema is separate from the regular lido admission. In the state of Berlin, the format is one of the most distinctive open-air cinemas – away from the hotspots in the inner city.
