Farmers' Market on Kirchweih Sunday in the Lallinger Winkel
The Lalling Fruit and Farmers' Market is one of the most beautiful rural markets in the Deggendorf district. It traditionally takes place on Kirchweih Sunday – usually the third Sunday in October in Bavaria. For 2026, this means October 18th. The venue is the village square in the center of Lalling, the main town of the so-called Lallinger Winkel, a protected and particularly mild valley in the Bavarian Forest.
The Lallinger Winkel is one of Bavaria's northernmost contiguous fruit-growing areas. Protected by the surrounding Bavarian Forest, apples, pears, and plums grow here in a quality that has cult status among connoisseurs. On market day, Lalling's fruit growers offer their harvest directly from the farm: dessert apples of classic and old varieties, freshly pressed apple juice, cider, homemade jams, and liqueurs.
In addition to fruit, traditional Kirchweih specialties are the focus on market day: sweet Kirtakrapfen, hearty regional delicacies, pretzels, bratwurst, and Kirta beer. The local associations – traditional costume club, fire department, music band – provide a lively accompanying program and culinary catering on the festival day.
A curated selection of regional artisans offers wooden crafts, ceramics, and home and garden decorations. The typical atmosphere of a Bavarian farmers' market meets the quiet beauty of the Bavarian Forest here. The market attracts visitors from far beyond the Lallinger Winkel – from the entire Deggendorf district and the Bavarian Forest.
Kirchweih (called Kirta in Lower Bavaria) is still a central village festival in the Bavarian Forest. The market on Kirchweih Sunday combines two old traditions: the harvest theme (dessert fruit) and the Kirta festival with Krapfen, dancing, and community life. Anyone visiting the Bavarian Forest in October should mark the date on their calendar.
On October 18, 2026, the third Sunday in October – the traditional Kirchweih Sunday in Bavaria – falls on the market date in Lalling. The market builds on the decades-long tradition of farmers' markets in the Lallinger Winkel, Bavaria's northernmost contiguous fruit-growing area.
Fruit growers from Lalling farms, regional beekeepers, home distillers, shepherds, artisans (wood, ceramics), local associations with Kirtakrapfen and delicacies, and the Lalling music band for the musical accompaniment are expected.
