Black Forest Village Festival at the Pavilion

The Obersimonswald village festival has been the summer highlight of the Obersimonswald district of the Black Forest for years. From July 31 to August 2, 2026, the festival grounds at the pavilion will open — a traditional meeting place on the outskirts of the village. The event is organized by the Obersimonswald community association, an alliance of local clubs.

Friday — Festival Opening with Keg Tapping

The opening on Friday, July 31, 2026, will be the official festival opening with a keg tapping ceremony by the mayor of the municipality of Simonswald. Afterwards, the festival tent program and live music will continue into the night.

Saturday — Live Music with the Original Schwarzwald Quintett

The musical highlight of the festival is the Original Schwarzwald Quintett — one of the best-known Black Forest folk music bands in the region. With dulcimer, violin, clarinet, accordion, and bass, the quintet plays traditional and newer Black Forest folk music with rousing energy. Other regional music bands will complement the musical program on all three festival days.

Sunday — Frühshoppen and Family Afternoon

Sunday, August 2, 2026, starts with the traditional Frühshoppen from noon. From the afternoon onwards, the family afternoon program will feature pony rides for children, games, activities, and face painting. The associations will provide culinary delights with Black Forest specialties — Schäufele (pork shoulder), Wurstsalat (sausage salad), Schwarzwälder Schinken (Black Forest ham), along with Bratwurst (grilled sausage), fries, and sweets from the association's cakes.

Obersimonswald and the Simonswald Valley

Obersimonswald is the northern district of the municipality of Simonswald in the Emmendingen district. The Simonswald Valley — one of the most characteristic Black Forest valleys — cuts deeply between the ridges between Elzach and Furtwangen. The valley is characterized by Black Forest farmhouses, hiking trails, the high water power of the Wild Gutach river, and an active club culture. The village festival is one of the most important social events of the year in Obersimonswald.

Obersimonswald Community Association

The Obersimonswald community association unites the local clubs — music association, sports club, fire department, traditional costume band, heritage society. They organize the village festival together, with the volunteer work of numerous families and generations. The proceeds go to the club's activities and local social projects.
