Festival on Königsplatz — Classical meets Youth Culture
Königsplatz in Munich's Kunstareal — the monumental Neoclassical square with the Propylaea, Glyptothek, and Collection of Classical Antiquities — becomes the festival grounds for OBEN OHNE Open Air once a year. The contrast is legendary: stages for German and international Indie, HipHop, Pop, and Electronic acts stand before the ancient architecture, and 20,000 young people celebrate into the evening. One of Germany's most visually unusual festivals.
Truly Non-Commercial
OBEN OHNE Open Air is not a festival by a major promoter and not a hidden business model. The organizers are the Kreisjugendringe München-Stadt and München-Land — umbrella organizations of Munich's youth associations. The festival is part of open youth work and is co-organized by hundreds of volunteers from Munich's youth centers. Admission is affordably priced; solidarity tickets are free for young people up to 27 with a Munich/Munich-Land Pass, and severely disabled individuals and Juleica holders (volunteering youth) also have free entry.
Indie, HipHop, Electronic — The Young Scene
The lineup is consistently focused on youth culture: national and international acts from the German-speaking Indie and HipHop scene, with a local Munich focus (Munich acts, acts with Munich roots), but also international artists. Consistently noticeable: a high proportion of acts with migration backgrounds and FLINTA* acts. 2026 headliners Souly (Viennese singer-songwriter, Pop), Nura (Berlin rapper), benno! (Munich rap), plus Anaïs, Bac, Baran Kok, C4RL, Ceren, Fyne, Kiarababa, Lovehead, Signmark (deaf Finnish rapper), and Yung Pepp.
20,000 Tickets — Sold Out
As in previous years, the festival with 20,000 tickets is long sold out for 2026. Those who still want to attend: official resale platform on the festival website (original prices, no black market), waiting list, solidarity tickets for eligible groups distributed free of charge through six Munich youth centers (including JIZ and KulturRaum München).
Awareness, Accessibility, Sustainability
OBEN OHNE has been setting standards in awareness and inclusion for years: mobile awareness teams, Safer Space, Quiet Rest Area, FLINTA* zones, sign language interpretation, low-threshold travel (10 minutes walk from the main station or direct U-Bahn to Königsplatz), climate-friendly (reusable cups, regional caterers, public transport recommendation).
Munich in Summer 2026
On July 25th, OBEN OHNE fits into the Munich festival summer, between Frühlingsfest (May), Tollwood Summer (June–July), Stustaculum (July), Sommer in der Stadt (June–September), and the Mariä-Himmelfahrts-Wallfahrt on Königsplatz. Anyone who experiences Munich year-round knows: OBEN OHNE is the moment when the young city culture conquers the representative main square once a year.
