28th edition of the most important city run in Schleswig-Holstein in Friedrichsgabe
Norderstedt β Schleswig-Holstein's fifth-largest city with around 80,000 inhabitants β is located north of Hamburg in the Segeberg district and is closely connected to the Hanseatic city via the U1 subway line. With its decentralized structure of four formerly independent municipalities (Friedrichsgabe, Garstedt, GlashΓΌtte, Harksheide), the city offers an unusual mix of urban and suburban character, well-suited for running routes through quiet neighborhoods.
The Friedrichsgabe district β located in the west of Norderstedt β has been the center of the Norderstedt City Run for years. The course leads through quiet residential areas, along green spaces, and over short, fast straights. With start and finish in Friedrichsgabe and a course with few elevation changes, the city run is a fast competition that allows for good personal bests.
The Norderstedt City Run is recognized by the German Athletics Association (DLV) as "eligible for best lists" β an award only given to runs with precisely measured courses and qualified timing. This means that the times run here count towards DLV best lists and ranking points. For ambitious hobby runners, this is an important factor β one reason why the city run attracts many club runners from the Hamburg metropolitan area every year.
With around 2,500 participants, the Norderstedt City Run is one of the largest city runs in Schleswig-Holstein. The organizer is the Norderstedter Sportverein e.V. (NSV), supported by OBI and other regional sponsors. The run is a firm fixture on the North German sports calendar and a must-attend event for many participants from the Segeberg district, the city of Hamburg, and the Pinneberg district.
The 28th edition of the Norderstedt City Run will take place on June 7, 2026, in Friedrichsgabe β a western district of Norderstedt. Around 2,500 participants of all performance levels are expected. The 5 km and 10 km courses, recognized by the DLV for best lists, form the main program, complemented by the OBI Run for schoolchildren, the Waldi Kids' Run, the Toddler Run, a taster run, and Nordic walking routes.
The organizer is the Norderstedter Sportverein e.V. (NSV). Volunteer positions are advertised β interested parties can contact the club's website.
