About Nord Folk Festival
Nord Folk Festival — edition 2026
The upcoming edition once again brings together folk bands from Scandinavia, German-speaking regions, and beyond for a three-day festival at the Goldbekhaus. The programme alternates between folk concerts for listening and Balfolk dance concerts for dancing along — a dual structure that makes the festival unique.
Detailed set times and workshop schedules will be published in late summer 2026 on goldbekhaus.de and nordfolkfestival.de. Tickets — advance sale €80–€100 regular, €60–€80 reduced — can be booked via the festival website. Children up to 14 years have free admission.

Folk Tradition Meets Balfolk Dance
The Nord Folk Festival is one of Hamburg's most unusual festival formats. Instead of the classic concert-with-seated-audience logic, it combines folk concerts for listening with Balfolk dance concerts for dancing along — making folk music a vibrant social practice, not just a consumption culture.
Goldbekhaus — Winterhude's Community Cultural Centre
The venue is the Goldbekhaus at Moorfuhrtweg 9 in the Winterhude district, one of Hamburg's most traditional community cultural centres. For decades, the Goldbekhaus has offered programmes in music, theatre, dance, and political education — and with its halls, outdoor area, the Deck 9d hall, and seminar rooms, it is perfectly suited for a three-day folk festival with dance, workshops, and jam rooms.
Two Stages, Three Days
The festival spans three days from Friday to Sunday and uses two stages in parallel:
- Folk concerts for listening — acoustic folk music from Scandinavia, German-speaking regions, and beyond
- Balfolk dance concerts for dancing along — the bands play, and the audience dances Bourrée, Mazurka, Polka, Schottisch, and other traditional dances
Workshops and Jam Sessions
A special feature of the programme is the free workshops, which are included in the festival ticket. Beginners learn the basic steps of Balfolk dances, while advanced participants deepen their choreography or instrumental techniques. In parallel, spontaneous jam sessions take place: musicians with folk instruments gather on the floors and play together — a format that conveys folk music as a living practice.
Artists 2026
The 2026 programme brings together several stars of the North German and European folk scene:
- Floating Sofa Quartett (Danish folk quartet)
- ZIRP
- Tworna (German-Scandinavian folk fusion)
- TradTöchter
- Hartwig Trio
- Familie Gerstenberg
Encounter Instead of Consumption
The festival describes itself as a platform for "encounter across generations, cultural backgrounds, and social differences." Music and dance as a community-building tool — a claim fulfilled by the format (dance, jam, workshops).
