About New Orleans Festival
New Orleans Festival — edition 2026
The 25th anniversary edition of the New Orleans Festival Fürth takes place on Pentecost weekend 2026: Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026, on the Fürther Freiheit. Over 13 acts will perform over the two festival days — a mix of regional, German and international artists from Jazz, Blues, Brass, Ska and related genres.
On Sunday at 11 AM, a »Weißwurst-Frühschoppen« with a children's program will open the day — a Bavarian nod that has become a hallmark of the festival. The sponsors (Sparda Bank, infra Fürth, Norma, among others) ensure free admission in 2026 as well.

25 Years of New Orleans in Fürth
The New Orleans Festival Fürth was founded in 2001 and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026. During this time, the festival has developed from a local initiative into a regionally known free festival with professional organization. The success is based on a stable curatorial line: Jazz and Blues with a focus on Louisiana roots (New Orleans Brass, Dixieland, Second Line), expanded to include Ska, Soul and related genres.
Fürther Freiheit as a Stage
The »Fürther Freiheit« is the central square in Fürth, located in front of the historic town hall. During the festival, several stages are set up, gastronomic stands are erected, and the square becomes a festival mile. The central location makes the festival easily accessible on foot from the train station and the city center.
Free Admission — Model with Sponsors
The festival is consistently free of charge and is financed by sponsoring (Sparda Bank, infra Fürth, Norma, among others) and stand fees. This model makes the New Orleans Festival one of the few major free events for jazz and blues in Germany and ensures its broad, socially mixed audience.
Program Profile
On both festival days, 13 or more acts perform: regional jazz and blues bands from Middle Franconia, German acts of standing, international artists. Brass bands typically dominate Sunday with a »Weißwurst-Frühschoppen« (traditional Bavarian sausage breakfast) at 11 am — a Bavarian nod. A children's program rounds off the family offering.
Fürth and the Region
Fürth is the northern sister city of Nuremberg and part of the Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen-Schwabach metropolitan region (»Franconian Metropolis«). With about 130,000 inhabitants, Fürth is an independent city in the administrative region of Middle Franconia. The New Orleans Festival is, alongside the Bardentreffen and Rock im Park, one of the region's most important music festival contributions to the Southern German summer.
