Season Kick-off in the Cloverleaf City
When the carousels are set up on Fürther Freiheit, the whole city knows: Spring has arrived. For decades, the Fürth Spring Market has been the traditional season opener for open-air markets and Kärwas (traditional festivals) in Fürth, Nuremberg's Franconian sister city. The event is organized by the City of Fürth in collaboration with the tourism office Fürth Tourismus.
Market, Rides, and Culinary Delights
Fürther Freiheit – a large square directly at the Fürth train station – transforms into a colorful festival arena for nine days. Market stalls offer haberdashery, leather goods, hardware, traditional costumes, jewelry, and sweets. Family-friendly rides like carousels, classic Ferris wheels, and children's rides particularly attract families. Culinary offerings include Franconian bratwurst, fish rolls, crêpes, candied almonds, and much more. The 'Grüner Markt' (Green Market) features puppet shows and pot-planting activities for children.
Beer Tapping, Family Day, and Vintage Cars
For years, several recurring program points have been highlights of the market:
- Opening with festive beer tapping and traditional herring tasting on the first Saturday
- Sunday Shopping – shops in Fürth's city center open their doors
- Family Day with reduced prices on rides and food stalls
- Vintage car and tractor meet on the closing Sunday
Fürth – The Cloverleaf City at the Start of Holy Week
With over 130,000 inhabitants, Fürth is one of the larger cities in Bavaria and part of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. The city, with the cloverleaf in its coat of arms, is known for its almost completely preserved Wilhelminian-era architecture, the famous Stadttheater Fürth (City Theater), and its diverse market culture – from the Spring Market to the Harvest Festival (Erntedankfest) to the Christmas Market (Christkindlmarkt). The Spring Market traditionally falls at the beginning of Holy Week or the week before Easter.
