Autumn Folk Festival in the City Center
In September, as the days grow shorter and the first autumn scent drifts through the streets, the Großflecken transforms into a classic North German autumn market for four days. Carousels, a Ferris wheel, dodgem cars, a haunted house, and numerous game stalls form the heart of the festival, surrounded by food stands offering bratwurst, fries, candied almonds, crepes, and autumn specialties.

The market runs from Friday to Monday:

- Sunday, September 27, 2026 — 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM (Sunday shopping)
- Monday, September 28, 2026 — 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Sunday Shopping
The highlight is Sunday (September 27, 2026) with Sunday shopping throughout the city center. Neumünster retailers open their doors and participate in parallel events — known are the Stoff-Köste (fashion promotions) and the Schlemmerköste (culinary stalls on the shopping mile). The Großflecken market and the city center thus merge into a day of family flair, shopping, and festival atmosphere.

Neumünster in Autumn
Neumünster — an independent city with around 80,000 inhabitants, located between Hamburg, Kiel, and Lübeck — has a long tradition as a market town. The Großflecken has been the central market square since the Middle Ages, today featuring brick architecture, the Holstenkaufhaus department store, the Klatsch-Palais, and the typical North German atmosphere. The autumn market at the end of summer ushers in the cooler season and is also the last major open-air event before Advent begins in November.
Herbstmarkt Neumünster — edition 2026
As in previous years, the showmen set up their stalls at Großflecken on Thursday. The market and rides operate Fri/Sat/Sun from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM each day, with shortened hours until 8:00 PM on Monday (dismantling day). The exact list of showmen may vary slightly from year to year — the precise list will be published by the City of Neumünster on its website in September.
