Bavarian Partnership in East Berlin

Neuenhagen bei Berlin is located directly on the eastern edge of the capital in the Märkisch-Oderland district and has about 18,000 inhabitants. The municipality has maintained a partnership with Grünwald, a municipality south of Munich, since 1991 — and the Neuenhagen Oktoberfest originated from this partnership. What began as a Bavarian-Brandenburg gesture is today a folk festival with over 10,000 visitors per year and one of the largest of its kind in the Berlin metropolitan area.

Three Days at Platz der Republik

The 34th edition takes place from September 11th to 13th, 2026 — right at Platz der Republik in the town center. Three stages will be in action, plus a beer tent, festival grounds with fairground rides, and a central show area.

Friday, 09/11/2026 (6 PM–12 AM) — Opening

• Lantern Parade through Neuenhagen — children walk through the town with homemade lanterns
• Festive opening ceremony at Platz der Republik
• First stage acts and dance evening

Saturday, 09/12/2026 (10 AM–12 AM) — Main Festival Day

• 12 PM: Keg Tapping by the Mayor — traditional highlight in Bavarian style
• Three stages with live music (brass bands, Schlager, cover bands)
• Bavarian delicacies: Weißwurst, pretzels, roast chicken, pork knuckle
• Dancing into the evening

Sunday, 09/13/2026 (10 AM–5 PM) — Family Wind-Down

• Morning pint with brass music
• Children's and family program
• Farewell in the afternoon

Traditional Costumes and Stage Program

The Oktoberfest in Neuenhagen consistently cultivates the Bavarian format: Dirndl and Lederhosen are welcome, but not mandatory; the musical program features the classic mix of traditional folk music, Schlager, and cover bands. Three stages are active simultaneously, ensuring continuous programming throughout the day — from the morning pint brass band to the evening party band.

Tradition Since 1991

The tradition began shortly after reunification: the new municipal partnership with Grünwald in Bavaria led to the first Neuenhagen Oktoberfest in 1991. It has grown steadily over the years, and today it is one of the oldest Oktoberfests in Brandenburg and one of the few that truly thrives on an active Bavarian connection — not just a commercially staged beer festival, but an expression of a real partnership between East and West.
