About Neuenfelder Markt

Every September, the marksmen's association, village clubs, and church community invite you to the Neuenfelder Markt – in Low German 'Neefeller Markt be de Kark'. On the eve, a lantern procession starts from the church; on Saturday, a village market with stalls from all local clubs, booths, live music, and Hamburg atmosphere in the Altes Land region.

Hamburg's most rural village market

In the south of Hamburg, on the edge of the Altes Land, a format has survived for over forty years that has long since disappeared from the urban calendar elsewhere: the Neuenfelder Markt. In Low German, the whole thing is called Neefeller Markt be de Kark – Neuenfelde Market by the Church.

Lantern procession and market day

The festival weekend begins on the eve with a lantern procession, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Neuenfelde Church and winds through the village streets. On Saturday, the market around the church opens from the morning: stalls of the local clubs, bouncy castle, delicacies booths, carousels, live music on the small stage. The marksmen provide bratwurst and beer, the women from the church café provide homemade cake, the sports club provides the bouncy castle – almost every initiative from Neuenfelde is involved.

45th edition in 2026

The 45th edition makes the market one of the oldest rural folk festivals within Hamburg's city limits. The organizer is the Schützenverein Neuenfelde 1912 e.V., one of the most important village clubs in southern Hamburg.

Harburg District, Altes Land

Neuenfelde is Hamburg's gateway to the Altes Land, Germany's largest fruit-growing region. The market showcases this rural identity – a stark contrast to the Hanseatic big-city character usually associated with Hamburg. In the Harburg district, the Neuenfelder Markt is one of the most authentic village festivals.
