Christmas in the Altes Land

Neuenfelde is located in the southernmost part of Hamburg, on the eastern edge of the Altes Land – Germany's largest contiguous fruit-growing region. Every year, the Schützenverein Neuenfelde 1912 e.V. organizes its very own Christmas market here: small, rural, firmly anchored in the village community of the Harburg district.

Market around the Church

The Christmas market takes place around the St. Pankratius Church Neuenfelde – a historic brick building from the 17th century with the famous Arp Schnitger organ, one of the most important preserved Baroque organs in Northern Germany. Stalls with mulled wine, homemade apple punch, bratwurst, smoked fish from the region, local fruit, and handicrafts characterize the market.

Hamburg's Fruit Culture

Unlike the touristy Christmas markets in Hamburg's city center, the Neuenfelde market showcases the agricultural side of the Hanseatic city: fruit farmers from the Altes Land sell apple chutneys, apple brandy, apple cake, and juice. The atmosphere is that of a village Christmas market, far from the hustle and bustle of Mönckebergstraße.

Harburg District

Neuenfelde belongs to the Harburg district, Hamburg's southernmost district. Travel by ferry (Hadag line) from Landungsbrücken to Cranz and then by bus, or via the A7 / B73.
