About Music, Light & Stones Frauenstein

«Music, Light & Stones» is an atmospheric open-air concert format held at the Frauenstein Castle Ruins in the Ore Mountains. As part of the Mittelsachsen Summer of Culture, the mystically lit castle ruins are transformed into a unique stage on a summer evening, where live music resounds against a historic backdrop. In 2026, the event will take place on July 25th. The Silbermann town of Frauenstein, birthplace of organ builder Gottfried Silbermann, welcomes music lovers for an evening where ancient walls, light installations, and sounds merge into a total work of art.

Concert against a Mystical Castle Backdrop

«Music, Light & Stones» brings live music to the Frauenstein Castle Ruins once a year — one of Saxony's most impressive castle ruins, located in the Mittelsachsen district in the Ore Mountains. The illuminated sandstone walls form a theatrical backdrop where music and architecture enhance each other. A summer evening at this location has the character of a small journey: you pass through the Silbermann town, walk up the Schlossberg to the ruins, and from 7 PM onwards, you can get in the mood for the 8 PM concert.

Mittelsachsen Summer of Culture

The event is part of the Mittelsachsen Summer of Culture — a series that bundles small, atmospheric concerts in special locations within the district. The Summer of Culture deliberately focuses on intimate formats away from the major festival crowds: castle courtyards, castle ruins, parks, churches. «Music, Light & Stones» is a flagship of this series because light installations further enhance the already spectacular ruins and transform the concert into a clearly defined stage space.

Frauenstein — The Silbermann Town

Frauenstein is the hometown of Gottfried Silbermann, the most famous organ builder of the Saxon Baroque. The Silbermann Museum in the town center and the region's close connection to organ music give Frauenstein a special cultural reputation that meaningfully complements the concert at the castle ruins. Those who arrive earlier can visit the museum, see the town church, or explore the market square with its historic houses.

Ore Mountains in Summer

In July, the Ore Mountains show their most beautiful side: bright evenings, mild temperatures, dense forests, clear views into the low mountain range. The event is one of the highlights of the cultural summer program in the region and attracts visitors from all over the state of Saxony as well as from neighboring Czech Republic.
