Ruchheim District

Ruchheim is one of the westernmost districts of Ludwigshafen, situated at the transition to the Palatinate landscape. With its village core, the historic Ruchheim Castle, the church, and active club life, the district has preserved its special character. The annual Kerwe at Schlossplatz is the most important independent annual festival, alongside the church festivals.

Schlossplatz as Festival Setting

Schlossplatz in the center of Ruchheim has served as the district square and festival grounds for decades. During the Kerwe, amusement rides, a festival tent, food stalls, and a stage are set up here. The location in front of the historic Ruchheim Castle provides a special backdrop for the Kerwe.

Four Days of Festivities in Mid-September

The Kerwe runs from Saturday, September 19th, to Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026. Opening on Saturday evening with a keg tapping ceremony, main Kerwe days on the weekend, and the traditional Kerwe closing on Tuesday.

Clubs and Showmen

The Kerwe is organized by the Ruchheim district association together with local clubs and showmen. Club catering – serving dishes like Saumagen, Spießbraten, Flammkuchen, and Bratwurst – complements the showmen's offerings. A stage provides live music in the evenings.

Embedded in the Kerwe Calendar

The Ruchheimer Kerwe follows the Kerwen in Oggersheim and Edigheim in early September and runs parallel to the Friesenheimer Eulenkerwe. With its more compact size and village character, it differs from the large inner-city festivals and maintains a distinct district-focused profile.
