Sulz's oldest tradition with children's parade, carousels, and festival activities on the Neckar
On July 17, 2026, the Musikverein Sulz am Neckar will once again host the traditional Neckar- und Kinderfest — the oldest Volksfest tradition in the small town in the Landkreis Rottweil. The venue is the idyllic Stadtpark Wöhrd directly on the Neckar, which transforms into a lively play area for children and families for this festive day.
The highlight for the children is the traditional parade through Sulz's town center. Children from Sulz kindergartens and primary schools participate in self-made costumes, often thematically linked — animals, fairy tale characters, professions, historical figures. For weeks, classes and groups craft their costumes with great enthusiasm. Teachers, educators, and parents accompany the parade groups, with the Musikverein playing at the front and setting the pace.
In the Stadtpark Wöhrd itself, Sulz associations set up carousels, game stations, and rides:
Throughout the Stadtpark, there are food stalls offering German and international cuisine — bratwurst, fries, pizza, crêpes, ice cream, sweets — and several drink stands serving beer, wine, juice, and sodas. The Musikverein Sulz itself performs multiple times a day on the stage in the park, mostly playing marches, polkas, and waltzes from the classic brass band repertoire.
The Neckar- und Kinderfest is deeply embedded in Sulz's identity. Generations have passed through the festival — as children in the parade, as parents with young children, as grandparents with grandchildren. This continuity makes the festival more than just a summer Volksfest — it is a family reunion, where the Sulz community gathers annually. Even former residents of Sulz, now living in other cities, return for this day.
Sulz am Neckar, with just under 12,500 inhabitants, is located in the Landkreis Rottweil, in the picturesque Upper Neckar Valley, about halfway between Rottweil and Horb. The town has a rich history as a former salt-producing town (hence the name 'Sulz') and a former Württemberg garrison town. The Stadtpark Wöhrd, located directly on the Neckar, is the green heart of the town — and the ideal venue for the Kinderfest.
The traditional Neckar- und Kinderfest will take place on July 17, 2026. In Stadtpark Wöhrd, associations will set up their stalls and carousels, and children will parade through the town center in self-made costumes. The Musikverein Sulz organizes the festival and provides entertainment with stage performances multiple times a day.
