Beach, Pop, and Family Day right on the North Sea mudflats — free with guest card
The mudflat grandstand on Büsum's main beach is a unique concert venue: a wooden grandstand rises directly at the waterline of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. During an event like the NDR Festival, thousands of guests enjoy the concert with a view of the mudflats and the horizon, while the band plays on the opposite stage — an experience where music and North Sea atmosphere blend together.
Büsum, located in the Dithmarschen district of Schleswig-Holstein, is one of Germany's most popular North Sea resorts and a family destination for generations. With a diverse event calendar throughout the year — Legends at the Sea, NDR Festival, Crabwalk, and many more — the Tourismus Marketing Service Büsum is one of the most active tourism providers on the North Sea.
Each year, the NDR Festival offers three central program pillars:
The entire NDR Festival is accessible free of charge with a valid guest or resident card — a special feature among large open-air festivals. Food and drinks are sold on-site at stalls. Despite a strained budget situation in 2026, Tourismus Marketing Büsum is committed to the high-quality event program.
On July 11, 2026, the mudflat grandstand in Büsum will transform into an NDR-class open-air stage: With JORIS, one of the most successful German pop acts of recent years will perform live on the North Sea coast. His trademark — passionate pop, authentic band sound, and a distinctive voice — promises a concert right on the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site under the open sky.
The "Battle Grömitz vs. Büsum" will also take place: a sporty and fun competition between the mayors and tourism directors of the two resorts, an idea from NDR and the tourism authorities to playfully stage the rivalry between the North and Baltic Sea resorts. The Family Day on the same weekend rounds off the program with children's entertainment.
Exact start times will be published by Büsum's tourism communication shortly before the event. Admission is free with guest or resident card.
Büsum is accessible via the B5 and is connected by train (RB66) from Heide. From Büsum station, it's a 10-minute walk to the main beach and the mudflat grandstand.
Free admission with a valid guest or resident card. Food and drinks are sold on-site.
Seating and standing room on the mudflat grandstand. Warm/weatherproof clothing is recommended in case of wind or rain. No advance booking.
