Concerts on the Dike
Westerdeichstrich is a classic Dithmarschen coastal town in the district of Dithmarschen in the state of Schleswig-Holstein — south of Büsum, directly on the Wadden Sea. Here, on the Stinteck dike, the Westerdeichstrich Tourist Information (Gerhard-Dreessen-Hus, Neuenkoog 13) has been organizing a summer concert series for years, which is one of the unmistakable experiences on the North Sea coast.
What Makes It So Special
Every Sunday evening in July and August, changing artists perform on the dike from 7:00 PM — some solo with guitar, others as duos, many with folk, country, or singer-songwriter repertoires. The outdoor acoustics, the wide view of the Wadden Sea, and the setting sun lend the evenings an almost magical atmosphere. The audience brings their own folding chairs, picnic blankets, and drinks — no catering, no admission fee, no VIP area. Instead of ticket sales, the hat is passed around, with voluntary donations for the performers ("Hutgage").

A Tradition with Wadden Sea Identity
What distinguishes the Summer Evenings from Schleswig-Holstein's major open-air concerts (Travemünder Woche, Kieler Woche, Festspiele) is precisely this reduction: no backstage, no advertising banners, no stage technology. Just an artist, a dike, a Wadden Sea, and a few dozen to a hundred listeners. It is the antithesis of the festival mainstream and all the more irresistible for it.

Summer Evenings 2026 — The Series
The Westerdeichstrich Tourist Information (Gerhard-Dreessen-Hus, Neuenkoog 13) is also organizing its traditional Sunday evening concert series on the Stinteck dike in 2026. Between the end of June and the end of August, various artists perform every Sunday evening from 7 PM — from solo singers with guitar to unusual duos.
Free admission, the hat is passed around for the artists. The audience brings their own folding chairs, picnics, and drinks. At sunset over the Wadden Sea, an almost magical concert atmosphere is created, unparalleled in any other event in Dithmarschen.

Getting There
Westerdeichstrich is located in the Dithmarschen district, south of Büsum. By car: B5 from Heide, then L138/L139 towards Büsum/Westerdeichstrich. By train: Büsum station, then bus or taxi (approx. 5 km). Parking is available at the Stinteck bathing area.
Admission
Free. The hat is passed around for the artists (voluntary donation).
Practical Information
Bring your own folding chair or blanket. Bring your own drinks and snacks — no catering on site. In case of rain, the event is not guaranteed (outdoor) — check the status beforehand with the Tourist Information.
