Traditional Heimat- und Wiesenfest in the Frankenwald — over 150 years of tradition
The Nailaer Wiesenfest looks back on a history of over 150 years. The last counted edition (2025) was the 149th or 150th Wiesenfest — making it one of the oldest continuously celebrated Volksfeste in Upper Franconia. The organizing bodies are the town of Naila and the Marxgrün rural youth association, supplemented by shooting clubs, traditional costume groups, and the local fire department. The festival is deeply rooted in the festival culture of the Frankenwald and is considered the most visible symbol of Naila's civic society.
Characteristic of the Nailaer Wiesenfest are the three parades over the weekend — on Saturday the parade of all associations, on Sunday the main parade with traditional costumes, brass music, and flag delegations, on Monday the famous school children's parade with the children from Naila elementary school and kindergartens. Residents are traditionally asked to decorate their houses for the parades.
A live band or brass music plays daily in the festival tent. Well-known acts from the last edition included the Musikverein Steinwiesen on Sunday, the Dorfmusik Rugendorf on Monday afternoon, and the band Bluesnid for the festival finale on Monday evening. A “Muckturnier” (traditional card game tournament) on Sunday is one of the regular program items.
Naila is a small town with around 7,500 inhabitants in the Hof district, in the northeastern Frankenwald. Its location between the Frankenwald, the Vogtland, and the Bohemian Ore Mountains shapes the self-understanding of its citizens — a region where traditional Volksfeste and club culture are firmly anchored.
The Wiesenfest 2026 is scheduled for July 11–12, 2026, in the town of Naila (Hof district). Event dates are based on the official Naila event calendar and preliminary reports from local press.
The traditional program structure — three parades, festival tent operation, amusement park, school children's parade — will be maintained as every year. The exact program times and participating bands will be published in early summer on the Stadt-Naila website.
