The Family Festival of the Homburg Music School
For years, the MUSIKschulFEST has been the central meeting point for the Homburg Music School, its student families, and the public. The festival is held every year in late spring in the rooms, courtyards, and halls of the music school at Schongauer Straße 1 in Homburg, Saarpfalz-Kreis.
What awaits you on stage
The festival begins in the morning with performances by the youngest students—from musical early education—and continues into the late afternoon. The stages feature a rotation of:
- Choir »Cantare« of the music school
- School Orchestra with classical and modern repertoire
- Various Ensembles (string, wind, woodwind)
- Bands playing pop, rock, and jazz
- Solo performances by advanced students
Hands-on and Creative Activities
Between stage performances, there are hands-on activities where visitors can get involved:
- Ebru Art — the traditional Ottoman water marbling. Pigments are applied to water surfaces and shaped into patterns with fine tools, then transferred to paper. Fascinating for children and adults.
- Try out Instruments — those considering learning an instrument can test violins, cellos, pianos, saxophones, or drums without obligation.
- Creative Workshops for children
Catering
A support association of the music school provides refreshments—cakes, coffee, small snacks, drinks. The proceeds go back to supporting the music school's activities.
Homburg Music School
The municipal Homburg Music School is responsible for musical education in the district and university town of Homburg. The director is Carola Ulrich, who describes the MUSIKschulFEST as a "wonderful opportunity" to "experience the music school as a place of encounter, creativity, and community." Several hundred students receive lessons there—from preschool age to adulthood.
Who should visit
Primarily for families with musically interested children, but also for anyone who wants to spend a relaxed Sunday in May and enjoy music in many variations. Those considering musical education for their child will find the ideal opportunity here to get an impression of the music school on-site.
