Annual highlight of the Hanseatic town — 2.5 days of music, Hanseatic heritage, flea market, and Architecture Day
Kyritz, one of Brandenburg's historic Hanseatic towns, celebrates its biggest civic festival of the year: the Kyritz Old Town Festival. For 2.5 days, the city center transforms into a festival mile, bringing together tradition and the present in a single weekend. The 'Hanse schmecken' experience market recalls the town's old trading connections in northern Brandenburg, while 'Architecture Day' at the Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz offers a new perspective on the modern city.
Bands, orchestras, choirs, and DJs perform on several stages in the city center. The musical spectrum ranges from rock and pop to classical concerts, folk songs, and Schlager. The fairground with rides and stalls accompanies the festival, and the Saturday flea market attracts bargain hunters from across the region. Free admission.
The 'Hanse schmecken' experience market adds a special touch: regional specialties, bread, fish, wine, and beer are not only sold here but are also placed in the historical context of the old Hanseatic towns. For centuries, Kyritz was a hub in the trade network between Pomerania, the Margraviate of Brandenburg, and Hamburg — a taste that is still evident in the market offerings today.
A special feature of the festival is Architecture Day at the Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz, a former monastery complex in the city center. Guided tours, lectures, and exhibitions are dedicated to Kyritz's historical and contemporary urban architecture — from the medieval foundations of St. Mary's Church to contemporary renovation projects.
Kyritz is located in the northern Brandenburg district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin, nestled in a landscape of lakes, forests, and small hills. A visit to the Old Town Festival can be combined with a tour of the Ruppiner Schweiz (Ruppin Switzerland), a swim in the Untersee lake, or a walk through nearby Wittstock/Dosse.
The city center of Kyritz transforms into a festival mile for a weekend. Bands, orchestras, choirs, and DJs will perform on the stages, the 'Hanse schmecken' market will offer regional specialties with Hanseatic connections, and Architecture Day will open up the historic urban fabric for guided tours.
Unlike large folk festivals, the Kyritz Old Town Festival focuses on the interplay of music, culinary delights, history, and urban space. The city center with its town church and monastery remains the focal point.
A detailed program will be communicated shortly before the festival on kyritz.de and regional-prignitz-ruppin.de.
