50th Anniversary: three stages, 20 live acts, and market stalls in the city center
The Homburg Maifest is approaching its first major anniversary in 2026: its 50th edition. What began as a spring fair in 1976 has developed into one of the most important city festivals in the Saarpfalz district – attracting over 100,000 visitors annually, with three stages, over 20 live acts, and a traditional market. The organizer is Homburger Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH, which carefully curates the program.
The festival is strictly divided into three musical worlds. Stage 1 on the Historischer Marktplatz focuses on schlager and pop cover bands – in 2025, acts like Rokko Rubin & Die Schlagerjuwelen performed here. Stage 2 on Christian-Weber-Platz is home to high-quality tribute bands: in 2025, the Taylor Swift tribute band “Taylor Experience” and “Another Journey,” arguably Europe's best Journey tribute band, played here. The Rock Stage at the Rondell covers the entire rock spectrum – from rock-pop and classic rock to heavy metal. In 2025, Guns N' Roses and Motörhead tribute bands were featured here.
A Homburg tradition: On Sunday afternoon, Christian-Weber-Platz belongs to the line dancers, who fill the square to the live music of “Country to Go” or similar country combos. A format that has a loyal fan base in the region and perfectly demonstrates the Maifest's cross-generational appeal.
In addition to the music, the Maifest has offered the Krammarkt (market stalls) on Talstraße for generations – a street market with textiles, jewelry, household goods, toys, and regional crafts. In St.-Michael-Straße and at the Rondell, the children's program runs: carousels, face painting, entertainment, and interactive stations. Families are explicitly welcome here.
Over 30 stalls provide food from the Saarpfalz region, neighboring Lorraine, and international cuisine: Schwenker and Lyoner (Saarland classics), Flammkuchen from Bliesgau, Bratwurst, Asian specialties, vegan bowls. Accompanied by beer from Saarland breweries Saarfürst Merzig and Karlsberg (a local Homburg favorite).
With around 42,000 inhabitants, Homburg is the district capital of Saarpfalz and, in addition to its university hospital and industry (Bosch, Schaeffler), boasts a vibrant cultural scene. The Maifest symbolically represents this dual structure: a city of science and economy, but also a city with tradition and a strong desire for festival culture.
The organizer is Homburger Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH. The anniversary program will be published in spring 2026. Based on previous editions, tribute bands of world-class acts, schlager cover bands, and rock/heavy metal bands are expected again.
The exact lineup for 2026 will be published in April 2026 on homburg.de.
