The big tent Oktoberfest of Saarland with Karlsberg festival beer
When Homburg smells of pretzels, chicken, and festival beer during Wiesn time, you know: the Saarland autumn has begun. Since 2008, the city of Homburg, together with organizer TOB events, has been organizing the big tent Oktoberfest on the festival grounds. The concept is a deliberate homage to Munich's Theresienwiese — with a festival tent, Bavarian party band, Maßkrugs, and traditional costume — but the content is Saarlandic: instead of Munich Hofbräu, Karlsberg festival beer from the Homburg Karlsberg brewery, one of the largest and oldest breweries in Saarland, flows.
The Wiesn extends over two weekends: the first weekend at the end of September (usually Friday to Sunday), the second over the bridge of the Day of German Unity from October 2nd to 5th. Thursday, October 2nd, is traditionally "Traditional Costume Day" with special promotions for authentically dressed visitors. The highlight is the festival parade on October 3rd (Day of German Unity), where brewery wagons, music clubs, festival hosts, and associations parade through Homburg's city center and the festival is opened with the traditional "O'zapft is!".
In the large festival tent, decorated with linden wood and blue-and-white pennants, Bavarian brass musicians perform during the day, and party bands like "Granaten", "Münchner Zwietracht", or local cover Schlager bands take over in the evening. Dance floors, Wiesn benches, chicken and grilled fish stands, a carousel in front of the tent — the full Munich program in a Saarlandic mini-version.
Homburg is located in the Saarpfalz-Kreis and is not only a university location (Saarland Klinikum) but also a festival hotspot. Karlsberg Beer Night, Homburg May Festival, Homburg Christmas Village, and now the Wiesn make the city one of the most event-rich in eastern Saarland. Anyone planning a tour of Saarland's festival culture should definitely include Homburg.
The concept works for families as well as bachelor parties. Sunday is Family Day with reduced rates, and Saturday evening is for the party crowd. TOB events ensures that safety and service standards can keep up with Munich's major beer events.
Following the proven pattern of previous years, the festival tent will be erected again for two weekends in 2026, with a festival parade on the Day of German Unity and a Maß beer party to conclude.
The 2026 program will be published in summer 2026. Following the proven pattern, the following dates are expected:
