World stars of classical music in the St. Johann church
The Hanseatic city owes the fact that world stars of classical music can be experienced in a village church in Bremen's Oberneuland district to violinist and artistic director Denis Goldfeld. Year after year, he brings internationally acclaimed soloists to the historic St. Johann church on Oberneulander Landstraße – a festival that is unusual in its density and quality for a district far from the major concert halls.
Six concerts are on the program, from the opening night to the grand finale. The intimate setting of the church creates a closeness between the audience and the musicians that is hardly possible in large venues. Names on stage include violinist Roby Lakatos with his ensemble, the Duplex-Piano of Florian Uhlig, the Trio SeRaMonica, violist Maxim Rysanov with Ashley Wass on piano, and cellist Marc Coppey.
Oberneuland is one of Bremen's greenest and quietest districts, characterized by old farmhouses, parks, and the St. Johann church. This environment gives the festival a special character: visitors experience classical music not in a concert hall, but in a space with centuries of history, embedded in the North German landscape.
The Internationales Musikfest Oberneuland is no longer an insider tip, but it has retained its family-like character. It is supported by an association that makes the festival possible through donations and volunteer work.
