26th edition of the independent Museum Night on the Oder
The Museumsnacht Frankfurt (Oder) is arguably Brandenburg's best-known cultural night. Initiated over 25 years ago by the city's cultural department, it has become a fixed date in the Oder metropolis's late summer calendar. The 26th edition takes place on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 5 PM to 11 PM — six hours of culture, music, and encounters in the city on the Polish border.
Six cultural institutions open their doors — free of charge, no reservation required, with a coordinated program:
Germany's only Heinrich von Kleist Museum commemorates the great poet of Frankfurt (Oder). During Museumsnacht, there will be special guided tours, readings, and occasional staged performances.
The BLMK showcases temporary exhibitions and its collection of East German contemporary art after 1945 in a magnificent historic building on the Oder.
The city history museum tells the eventful history of Frankfurt (Oder) between the Hanseatic League, Brandenburg nobility, Jewish tradition, and the reality of a German-Polish twin city.
The library also opens its doors in the evening — readings, literary events, and encounters with authors are on the program.
The imposing brick Gothic St. Mary's Church, once one of the largest hall churches in Brandenburg, hosts special concerts and guided tours during Museumsnacht.
The association displays its depot with historic trams — and traditionally offers free rides through the city on old trams during Museumsnacht. A tour that many families use annually.
The main sponsor is Sparkasse Oder-Spree. Further supporters include the City of Frankfurt (Oder), Radio Eins, the Stadtwerke, and the city's cultural department. The commitment of local businesses makes free admission possible.
Museumsnacht is more than a cultural event — it's a city festival. Restaurants and cafés stay open longer, the city center fills up, and many visitors combine several stops with breaks in the catering establishments. Footpaths and historic tram rides connect the venues.
From 5 PM to 11 PM, six institutions in Frankfurt's city center open their doors — free of charge. The Kleist Museum program includes readings and special tours, the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art presents its temporary exhibitions, the Viadrina Museum showcases city history, and the City and Regional Library invites you to readings. The brick Gothic St. Mary's Church offers concerts and tours. The Historic Tram Association complements this with a depot visit and, above all, free tram rides across the city. The main sponsor is Sparkasse Oder-Spree.
