Mumme – Braunschweig's liquid gold
Braunschweiger Mumme is one of Lower Saxony's oldest regional specialities. It was brewed here as a highly concentrated, viscous malt extract as early as the late Middle Ages and exported worldwide – from Hamburg to London and even to India. Today, Mumme lives on as a cultural asset, flavour enhancer, and symbol of identity.
Three days of Mumme culinary delights
The Mummegenussmeile puts this speciality at the heart of the city centre for three days. A culinary mile with numerous stands will feature dishes and drinks prepared with Mumme:
- Mumme mulled wine and Mumme hot drinks
- Mumme bread, baked goods, and sweet specialities
- Mumme dumplings and hearty stews
- Goulash with Mumme sauce
- Mumme liqueur and Mumme chocolate
- Other Mumme creations by local restaurateurs
Mumme Master Brewer Tours
On Fridays and Saturdays at 4:30 PM, guided Mumme master brewer tours take place. The meeting point is the Tourist Information in the city centre. The tour explains the history, production, and culinary use of Mumme.
Sunday Shopping
The event concludes with a Sunday shopping event from 1 PM to 6 PM, when the city centre's retail stores are also open. The Mummegenussmeile is part of four city centre events with Sunday shopping that the association City Life Braunschweig organises throughout the year.

Three days of Mumme in the city centre
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, 6th November, to Sunday, 8th November 2026. Central areas of Braunschweig's city centre will be featured with culinary stands, tasting opportunities, and sales.
The organiser is City Life Braunschweig; the Mummegenussmeile is one of four major city centre events with Sunday shopping that the association organises throughout the year.

- Friday, 06.11.: Opening of the culinary mile in the morning, from 4:30 PM Mumme Master Brewer Tour (meeting point Tourist Information)
- Saturday, 07.11.: Culinary mile all day, from 4:30 PM second Mumme Master Brewer Tour
- Sunday, 08.11.: Culinary mile all day, 1 PM–6 PM Sunday shopping in the city centre
- Throughout: Mumme mulled wine, Mumme bread, Mumme dumplings, Mumme goulash, sweet Mumme specialities, and Mumme liqueur
- Participants: Gastronomy and retail businesses in Braunschweig's city centre
- Accompanying: Musical performances and promotions in the shops

Location
Braunschweig City Centre – Stands along the pedestrian zone and in central squares.
Getting There
By tram / bus to "Rathaus", "Bohlweg", or "Hagenmarkt". Approx. 15 minutes' walk from the main train station. City centre car parks.
Admission
Admission to the culinary mile is free. Payment for food and drinks directly at the stands.

Mumme Master Brewer Tours Fri and Sat at 4:30 PM (meeting point Tourist Information). Registration recommended.
Sunday Shopping
1 PM–6 PM Sunday shopping in the city centre.
