Mumme – Braunschweig's liquid gold

Braunschweiger Mumme is one of Lower Saxony's oldest regional specialities. It was brewed here as a highly concentrated, viscous malt extract as early as the late Middle Ages and exported worldwide – from Hamburg to London and even to India. Today, Mumme lives on as a cultural asset, flavour enhancer, and symbol of identity.

Three days of Mumme culinary delights

The Mummegenussmeile puts this speciality at the heart of the city centre for three days. A culinary mile with numerous stands will feature dishes and drinks prepared with Mumme:

• Mumme mulled wine and Mumme hot drinks
• Mumme bread, baked goods, and sweet specialities
• Mumme dumplings and hearty stews
• Goulash with Mumme sauce
• Mumme liqueur and Mumme chocolate
• Other Mumme creations by local restaurateurs

Mumme Master Brewer Tours

On Fridays and Saturdays at 4:30 PM, guided Mumme master brewer tours take place. The meeting point is the Tourist Information in the city centre. The tour explains the history, production, and culinary use of Mumme.

Sunday Shopping

The event concludes with a Sunday shopping event from 1 PM to 6 PM, when the city centre's retail stores are also open. The Mummegenussmeile is part of four city centre events with Sunday shopping that the association City Life Braunschweig organises throughout the year.
