Three-day tent wine festival on the Middle Franconian Bocksbeutelstraße — Franconian Bocksbeutel wines, Wine Princess, and entertainment music
Weigenheim is located in the hilly landscape of the Frankenhöhe in southwestern Middle Franconia, nestled between Ochsenfurter Gau and Steigerwald. With around 1,000 inhabitants, the village is one of the smaller stops along the Middle Franconian Bocksbeutelstraße, a tourist theme route that leads through the wine-growing communities in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district. The vineyard slopes around Weigenheim are small but steep and sunny — the wine has a distinct mineral character.
The tent wine festival takes place every year in August under a classic festival tent in Weigenheim. For three days, only wines from the vineyards along the Bocksbeutelstraße are served — Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, and Domina, depending on the vintage, sometimes in the classic Bocksbeutel bottle. The wine service is accompanied by Franconian cuisine: Schäuferla, Bratwurst, Sauerbraten, and homemade Käsespätzle.
The highlight of the opening evening is the welcome of the reigning Wine Princess of the Bocksbeutelstraße, who officially starts the festival. The Wine Princess (or Wine Queen) is newly elected each year and represents the Franconian wine of the region at numerous festivals and trade fairs during her term.
On all three festival days, various bands play entertainment music in the festival tent: mood music from Franconian pop and dialect rock, brass music on Sunday morning (Frühschoppen), and dance bands on Saturday evening. The tent typically has around 600 to 800 seats, which are usually well-filled on the main evenings.
Those who take their time can combine the festival weekend with hikes along the vineyard slopes around Weigenheim, Reusch, and Ippesheim. The Bocksbeutelstraße offers a network of marked hiking trails through the region's vineyards — and several Heckenwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns) and wine bars in the neighboring villages are open over the festival weekend.
The 2026 edition of the Weigenheim Tent Wine Festival is officially confirmed by the Middle Franconian Bocksbeutelstraße. The festival tent opens on Friday, August 21, around 6 p.m. — the reigning Wine Princess of the Bocksbeutelstraße will be welcomed for the opening, followed by the first live performance by a dance band. Saturday and Sunday are dedicated to Franconian wine, Franconian cuisine, and entertainment music.
Only wines from vintners along the Bocksbeutelstraße are served — Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, and Domina. In good vintages, selected single-vineyard wines are available in the classic Bocksbeutel bottle.
Detailed band program and times will be updated on bocksbeutelstrasse.de/weinfeste.
