Christmas market under Germany's highest railway bridge
Few Advent markets boast such a backdrop: The Müngstener Brückenpark lies in the narrow Wupper valley between Solingen and Remscheid — and spanning above it is the Müngstener Brücke, at 107 meters high since 1897 the tallest railway bridge in Germany. It was here, in the valley of the Sterben, that the premiere of the Müngstener Weihnachtsdorf was celebrated in 2025. In 2026, the second edition runs continuously on all four Advent weekends — the market has arrived to stay.
Open Friday to Sunday, from 2 PM to 9 PM daily, on all four Advent weekends. Free admission. The Müngstener Weihnachtsdorf thus consciously distinguishes itself from paid boutique markets in the region — the atmosphere is familiar and accessible.
Between the historic railway bridge and idyllic nature, you'll find:
Haus Müngsten, the traditional excursion restaurant at the foot of the bridge, is the main host and initiator of the Christmas village. The restaurant huts serve hot drinks and culinary specialties — and the restaurant's interior is the ideal retreat in cold or rainy weather.
The Müngstener Brücke was constructed in 1897 by Anton von Rieppel as a railway arch bridge; it spans the Wupper valley for 465 meters and reaches a height of 107 meters. It is not only an industrial monument but also an active railway line to this day — trains between Solingen-Mitte and Remscheid still run over it. So, at a market like this, you stand under a moving train — which is part of the atmosphere.
The surrounding Brückenpark was designed as a landscape experience area as part of the Regionale 2006 initiative. Paths, viewpoints, a bridge ramp playground, and the Wupper crossing with the historic suspension ferry make the valley a popular excursion destination in the Bergisch-Solingen region even outside the Advent season.
The 2026 market runs on all four Advent weekends — Friday to Sunday, 2 PM to 9 PM each day. The dates are classic: 1st Advent (November 27–29), 2nd Advent (December 4–6), 3rd Advent (December 11–13), and 4th Advent (December 18–20). Haus Müngsten acts as host, setting up huts for hot drinks and food, while exhibitors from the Bergisches Land region present handmade products.
Offerings: handmade gifts from the Bergisches Land region, regional products, Advent decorations, Bergisch waffles, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), soups, mulled wine (Glühwein), punch. Haus Müngsten huts serve as central gastronomic points. Craft stalls around the bridge ramp.

Free admission. Mulled wine approx. €4, Bergisch waffle approx. €4, potato pancakes €4.50.
By car: A1 exit Burscheid or Remscheid, then follow signs for "Müngstener Brückenpark". Parking directly at the park, supplemented by meadow parking on Advent weekends. By train: S7 / RB47 to Solingen-Mitte, then bus line 681 / 682 towards Brückenpark. Approx. 15 minutes travel time from Solingen-Mitte station.
Friday evenings offer the most romantic atmosphere — the bridge is illuminated. Sundays afternoons are the busiest. Bring sturdy footwear (paths in the park, often damp in December). Dogs welcome, on a leash. With children: Use the park's playground as a meeting point.
