Four days of autumn funfair on Kemmannstraße in bergisch Cronenberg
Cronenberg is Wuppertal's southernmost district — located at around 350 meters altitude, with its own identity, village character, and deep-rooted bergisch tradition. The Cronenberger Kirmes on Kemmannstraße is one of the fixed Volksfest dates in Wuppertal's late summer. Together with the Berliner-Platz-Kirmes (October) and the Lichterzauber-Kirmes in Barmen (October), it forms the city's autumn funfair circuit.
From Saturday to Tuesday, rides roll onto Kemmannstraße — carousels, dodgems, a classic chain carousel, children's rides. Showman stalls with shooting galleries, dart throwing, lollipop and gingerbread heart sales, crêpe, almond, and bratwurst stands cater to the public. It's the classic German autumn funfair: down-to-earth, family-friendly, firmly rooted in Cronenberg tradition.
The bergisch highland district of Cronenberg was only incorporated into Wuppertal in 1929 and maintains its own identity to this day — with the historical Tool Museum (Cronenberg tools are world-famous), its own festival culture, and strong club life. The Kirmes is an important identity festival for this small, established district in the south of Wuppertal.
The Cronenberger Kirmes (September 12–15, 2026) initiates Wuppertal's autumn funfair season. It is followed by the Berliner-Platz-Kirmes (October 2–5) and the Lichterzauber-Kirmes in the Barmen pedestrian zone (October 8–11). Those who love showman tradition can visit several Wuppertal districts in September and October.
The Cronenberg district comprises the sub-districts of Kohlfurth, Sudberg, and Hahnerberg, as well as the Cronenberg centre. With around 21,000 inhabitants, it's manageable but lively — an ideal size for a traditional district funfair with a Volksfest character.
The Cronenberger Kirmes 2026 kicks off Wuppertal's autumn funfair season. Showman families gather on Kemmannstraße with classic and modern rides, and the district of Cronenberg transforms into a festival mile.
