International Classical Festival in the Hometown of Leopold Mozart
Augsburg is the birthplace of Leopold Mozart, the highly educated musician and composer and father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born here in 1719. The Mozartfest Augsburg builds on this heritage and is one of the most important classical festivals in the city of Augsburg in Swabia, Bavaria.
The festival comprises around 40 concerts, spanning several weeks and taking place at various venues throughout the city. The spectrum ranges from chamber music and orchestral concerts to specialized program formats that go far beyond Mozart and classical music.
Guests include stars of the international music scene such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Isabelle Faust, Chilly Gonzales, and Jess Gillam, as well as ensembles like the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, and the Danish String Quartet.
The festival is organized by the Augsburg City Cultural Office. With affordable U28 tickets, it specifically promotes a young audience, underscoring its open-minded approach.
From May 4 to 31, 2026, the Mozartfest Augsburg invites you to the hometown of Leopold Mozart under the motto »Herzenssache« (Matter of the Heart). The 2026 edition marks the tenth anniversary under the festival's current concept.
The program features around 40 concerts with international artists, including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Isabelle Faust, Chilly Gonzales, and Jess Gillam, as well as ensembles such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, Danish String Quartet, and the Jussen brothers.
