30 Brewers, 300+ Beer Varieties, Three Days in Geropark — Mönchengladbach's Beer Fest on the Lower Rhine
The Mönchengladbach Beer Festival is part of the nationwide Beer Festival series and will come to the city on the Lower Rhine for the eighth time in 2026. The venue is Geropark, the renovated municipal park on Weiherstraße between the city center and Eickener Höhe – a classic example of the revitalization of urban green spaces in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Over 300 different beer variations will be served at around 30 stands from all over Germany – from Belgian Trappist beers and German craft beer specialties to Scottish ales and exotic varieties from overseas. If you particularly like a taste, you can purchase the bottle to take home. Classic accompaniments: cold and warm dishes from the food trucks, from Flammkuchen to grilled meat.
Admission to the entire event is free. Opening hours are from 2 PM to 11 PM on Friday and Saturday, and from 1 PM to 7 PM on Sunday. The traditional keg tapping ceremony marks the official start. A DJ program runs on all three days, curated by Mönchengladbach's club 'Frau Manfred', located on Friedrichstraße and a long-standing fixture for electronic music in the region.
The Beer Festival series is held in more than two dozen cities and follows a proven pattern: central location, park setting, curated breweries, free access. Beer culture is traditionally strong in western North Rhine-Westphalia, especially in the Lower Rhine region from Mönchengladbach to Krefeld and Neuss – even if Cologne (Kölsch) and Düsseldorf (Altbier) dominate their respective styles. The Beer Festival deliberately focuses on diversity beyond local styles.
Mönchengladbach – one of the largest cities on the Lower Rhine, with Borussia Park, Rheydt Castle, and the Abteiberg Museum – uses summer formats like the Beer Festival to showcase the redesigned Geropark as an event space. Geropark has been upgraded as an urban recreational area in recent years; the beer festival demonstrates that its combined use as a venue is successful. Anyone looking for a relaxed May evening with beer diversity in a park setting will find it here.
