The Theater's Family Festival Day

The Kulturmarkt at Theater Mönchengladbach is the annual open-air family festival of the Stadttheater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach. The 6th edition takes place on Sunday, May 31, 2026 — with free admission under the patronage of Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs. Three open-air stages and one indoor stage present the entire spectrum of the theater: classical concert, dance, children's opera, theater premiere — all in one day, all free of charge.

Three Open-Air Stages Plus Theater Bistro

The spatial layout utilizes the theater's architecture:

• Main Stage Open Air (central forecourt)
• Theater Bistro Stage (covered, small format)
• Several smaller stages for workshops and performances by local associations
• Indoor stage in the theater hall for the premiere

Main Stage Program

The musical and dance highlight program of the main stage:

• 11:00 AM — 5th Children's Concert with Kobold Kiko — Theater's family format for children aged 4 and up
• 2:30 PM — Youth Dance Ensemble: Tanzprojekt II — SPUREN — Choreography by the theater's young talent
• 4:00 PM — Premiere "Arche 2026" (Indoor Stage) — Theater production with a current philosophical theme
• 6:00 PM — Niederrheinische Sinfoniker Open-Air Concert — the house orchestra under the open sky
• Followed by DJ set

Theater Bistro Stage

A continuous program runs concurrently on the Theater Bistro Stage, featuring:

• Musical solo performances
• Choir selections
• Jazz ensembles
• Literary readings

Family and Gastro Program

For families, there are:

• Children's Flea Market starting at 11:00 AM
• Play areas with sports games and bouncy castles
• Craft and hands-on activities
• Foodcourt with ice cream, burgers, pasta, coffee — local vendors

Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach

The Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach gGmbH is a unique theater project in Germany: two cities share a joint four-department theater (opera, concert, drama, dance), performing in two venues in both cities. The Niederrheinische Sinfoniker is the house orchestra. The Kulturmarkt is the central outreach event of the year — conceived as a low-threshold bridge between high culture and the urban community, with a family focus and free admission.
