May Festival of Brass Music in Degerschlacht
The Tag der Blasmusik on May 1st is one of the oldest traditional festivals in the Reutlingen district of Degerschlacht. The organizer is the Degerschlachter Blasmusik 1924 e.V. — a music association with over 100 years of tradition, which holds a firm place in the club life of the hilly districts on the Swabian Jura escarpment. In 2026, the festival falls on May 1, 2026 — Labour Day, which is traditionally used by many clubs for festivals as it's a public holiday.
Auchterthalle — The Musical Heart of Degerschlacht
The festival takes place in the Auchterthalle in Degerschlacht — the club hall of the music association, which makes it a reliable venue even in unpredictable April weather. Club members, guest bands, and families from the district gather inside and outside. The atmosphere is familiar and down-to-earth Swabian — a typical example of the vibrant music club culture of the Swabian Alb.
Morning Pint, Catering, and Guest Bands
The typical program includes a morning pint (Frühschoppen) starting in the late morning (live brass music by the main band), followed by performances by guest brass bands from the region — usually 2–4 guest clubs take turns throughout the day. Swabian catering (sausages, schnitzel, Maultaschen, potato salad, fries), beer, cider (Most), wine, and cake in the afternoon. A children's program with games and sweets is common.
Degerschlacht — Reutlingen District on the Swabian Jura Escarpment
Degerschlacht is a district incorporated in 1971 in the north of Reutlingen (District of Reutlingen, postal code 08415). The district is located on the Albtrauf — the striking northern slope of the Swabian Jura — and retains the character of an independent village with a lively club scene despite its incorporation. Reutlingen itself, a major district town with around 116,000 inhabitants, is only a few kilometers away.
Family-Friendly Club Festival with a Long Tradition
The festival is family-friendly and free to enter. It offers a rare opportunity to experience a traditional club festival in an authentic Swabian village setting — far from the tourist hustle and bustle, but with all the more atmosphere. The Degerschlachter Blasmusik 1924 has used May 1st for decades as its major club festival and a meeting point for the club families of the region.
