Medieval Times in the Schlosspark
The Mittelaltermarkt Schlosspark Geislautern is one of the established medieval events in the Saarland. In the historic Schlosspark of Völklingen's Geislautern district — a green area with old trees and a castle pond — market traders, craftspeople, and medieval groups set up their tents. The 2026 anniversary edition marks the 10th time since its founding — an event that has grown from a small hobby market to a regional highlight.
Live Craftsmanship
Numerous traders and craftspeople present their art right before the visitors' eyes: blacksmiths work iron into nails, tools, or jewelry over an open fire; potters shape jugs and bowls on the wheel; herbalists explain medieval medicine with fragrant pouches. In addition, there are leather goods, bow making, wood carving, medieval clothing, and jewelry.
Falconry and Knightly Games
A special highlight: the falconry demonstrations, where birds of prey — buzzards, falcons, owls — fly over the Schlosspark and return to the falconer's hand. In parallel, medieval groups stage knightly games — show combats in full armor, archery, sword fighting demonstrations. For children, there are special programs: Pied Piper performances, small archery courses, wooden toys to try out.
Music from Drum and Bagpipe
The market is musically equipped with several acts. Capud Draconis — a nationally known medieval band with bagpipes and drums — has been the musical backbone for years. New in 2026: Angerspil (trio with various instruments and the Pied Piper), PapperlaBarden (Hessian medieval minstrels, first guest appearance in Saarland), the juggling duo Timelino & Timelena with fire acrobatics, and the comedy performance The Knight in Search of Love from the Netherlands.
Culinary Delights: Mead, Flammkuchen, and Pork
The catering focuses on medieval classics: mead (honey wine), Flammkuchen (a type of flatbread pizza), hearty sausages, spit-roasted pork, pork knuckle, cauldron soups, and sweet pastries for the children. The atmosphere is convivial and relaxed — many visitors come in historical costumes themselves and receive a discounted admission price.
Völklingen-Geislautern — Schlosspark as a Backdrop
Geislautern is a district of Völklingen in the Saarbrücken regional association. The Schlosspark with its former manor house — once a noble estate — offers the ideal natural backdrop: old trees, a castle pond, vast lawns. The event is organized by the association Lorraine Médiévale e.V., a medieval association focusing on the border region between Saarland and Lorraine, which organizes one of its most important annual events here.
