26th Castle Festival at the romantic Falkenstein Castle in the Harz Mountains, Ascension Day 2026
Falkenstein Castle in the Selke Valley is one of the best-preserved castles in the Harz Mountains — a romantic complex high above the valley, with a keep, a medieval well, and a museum that tells the castle's history. It is located in the Pansfelde district of the town Falkenstein/Harz, in the district of Harz, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. After restoration work, the castle will reopen its gates on Ascension Day 2026 — and with it, the 26th Castle Festival, organized by the experienced medieval agency Sündenfrei.
You will immerse yourself in a vibrant medieval world for four days: craftsmen will demonstrate blacksmithing, stonemasonry, and wood carving right in front of the castle walls. Knight fights by the Burgwache (Castle Guard) will take place several times a day in the castle courtyard. In the evenings, concerts by medieval rock bands alternate: Cultus Ferox opens on Ascension Day, followed by Donner und Doria and Wolgemut. Fire juggler Rothar will provide nocturnal effects. Dogs on a leash are allowed, and the family package makes admission exceptionally fair.
Thursday, May 14, 2026 (Ascension Day) is the castle's reopening day after restoration. Cultus Ferox opens the medieval festival in the evening in the castle courtyard. Over the following three days, concerts, knight fights, and craft demonstrations will be spread out. Donner und Doria and Wolgemut are two of the other main acts. The festival closes around 7 PM on Sunday.
